Learn about different types of fibers and how to properly care for them.

Understanding Different Fiber Types and Proper Care
When choosing clothing or bedding, besides design, the "type of fiber" is a key factor that determines comfort and durability. We can divide fibers into three main groups:

1. Natural Fibers
These fibers are derived from plants and animals. They have excellent breathability but are prone to wrinkling and shrinking.

Cotton: Properties: Soft, good heat dissipation, excellent sweat absorption.
Care: Machine washable, heat resistant, easy to iron, but be careful about shrinkage in the first wash.

Linen: Properties: Stronger than cotton, highly breathable, has a natural sheen.
Care: Wrinkles very easily. Spray with water before ironing and use high heat, or iron while the fabric is still damp.

Silk: Properties: Luxurious, lustrous, adapts well to body temperature.
Care: Hand wash with mild detergent or dry clean. Avoid direct sunlight as it will make the fibers brittle.

2. Synthetic Fibers
These fibers are produced from chemicals. They are highly durable, wrinkle-resistant, and dry quickly.

Polyester: Properties: Good elasticity, wrinkle-resistant, and withstands frequent washing.
Care: Easiest to care for, machine washable. Do not use excessive heat when ironing, as the fibers may melt or become shiny.

Nylon: Properties: Strong and durable. Often used in sportswear or swimwear.
Care: Easy to wash, quick drying. Wash with similar colors to prevent color bleeding.

3. Semi-Synthetic/Regenerated Fibers:
These are fibers made from plant extracts (cellulose) that have undergone chemical processes to achieve a soft feel similar to silk but at a lower price.

Rayon/Viscose: Properties: Drapes beautifully, soft and cool.
Care: Weakness is that the fibers become very weak when wet. Hand washing or using a laundry bag is recommended. Do not wring violently.

Summary of tips for managing fibers to make them last longer:
Read the Care Label: This is the most accurate way to tell, as most garments are "blends."
Separate by washing type: Do not wash natural fibers with rough synthetic fibers (such as jeans) as this will cause pilling.
Water temperature: Cold water is best for preserving fibers and preventing shrinkage for almost all fabrics.
